The Z3M Coupé was developed from the earlier Roadster design, but with increased rigidity it was adapted for a greatly improved ride on both the road and the track. The earlier models were produced by BMW with the S50 engine taken out of the E36 M3; but later in production a limited number of run-out models were produced incorporating the amazing S54 engine lifted straight out of the legendary E46 M3. This 325bhp, 24 valve, 3246cc, straight-six engine increased the cylinder capacity by around 45cc and the bhp by around 10, giving acceleration from 0-60 in just 5.1 seconds. The lightweight build, stiff chassis and short wheelbase of the Z3M Coupé join with its impressive torque (350 Nm @ 3250 rpm) to give an incredible ride quite unlike any of its predecessors, with superb cornering and driver feedback from greater traction control and improved braking. With numerous awards, including Top Gear’s “Driver’s Car Of The Year 2000”, the Z3M Coupé is definitely an ultimate driving machine and without doubt a future Legend. With only 168 right-hand-drive models ever produced, well-cared-for, low-mileage examples are becoming increasingly scarce, of which this car is undoubtedly one.
With just 3 owners from new, this Z3M has passed through a surprisingly low number of hands, and the current owner has been in possession of the car since 2005. It also has an impeccable service history: with the exception of one service carried out by a BMW specialist the service history comprises only main dealer stamps, with all services in the correct order at the correct intervals – including the all-important running-in check carried out at L&C at 1,647 miles. Having only just received an oil and safety service with brake fluid change back in October 2012, the car won’t be due a service based on time until 2014.
