An M5 as M5s should be: this E39 is not to be missed. One of the most sought after models here at Munich Legends, this is an excellent example that has been maintained to the highest standard.
The E39 M5 really is all things to all drivers. Arguably the best of the M5 generations, the E39 can be transformed from a comfortable luxury family saloon to a fire breathing V8 monster with a quick burst of the fly-by-wire throttle. With huge torque, blistering acceleration and genuinely stunning cornering ability, the 400 horse power E39 M5 richly deserves its place in the automotive hall of fame.
This M5 has the S62, highly-tuned, 5 litre, V8 engine and produces 394 bhp. The engine features twin double-VANOS, which vary the intake and exhaust valve timings for both cylinder banks, as well as individual throttle actuators for the individual throttle butterflies. All this allows for a much faster engine response time and unrivalled overall performance. As per all E39 M5s, it’s equipped with a Getrag six-speed manual transmission gearbox. Its top speed was electronically limited to 155mph and 0-60 was recorded at 4.8 seconds by BMW; but some sources say it could be as low as 4.5 seconds!
In Silverstone blue with black leather, the paint work on this car is genuinely unmarked. There is no corrosion, and there are no dents or defects; it shines with a deep lustre, showing the subtle lines of the car to perfection. The leather is also in perfect order, not even showing the normal driver seat bolster wear.
This facelift M5 is without doubt one of the best we have seen for years, and M5s with this mileage are becoming increasingly rare and sought-after. This E39 has a huge spec, including double glazing, through-load boot with ski-bag, dsp and just about every extra available.
The service history is perfect with main dealer stamps at the exact intervals. The tyres all round are excellent, the front discs and pads are new and the wheels have been refurbished. The car has had a full workshop inspection, and all minor defects have been identified and will be rectified at pre-delivery stage, meaning the standard of preparation and condition upon delivery to the new owner will be impeccable.
This E39 M5 drives beautifully, as you would expect, with a relentless power delivery that is truly inspiring. Not for nothing is this E39 incarnation of the M5 considered by most M-power aficionados to be the most rewarding, responsive and relentless of the M5 generations. Whilst the M5 is without doubt shockingly fast, it will also pull from 25 mph in 6th gear, making the E39 an incredibly versatile, and very easy to own.
