The lovely M5 Touring was sold by Munich Legends to its current owner almost 2 years ago, and is now available one more.
The car has covered 205,319 KM, or approx 130k miles, but the interior condition completely belies this number. The cloth seats are unmarked and showing none of the usual wear and tear, and the door panels, footwells, steering wheels and consoles have no scratches or wear.
The exterior of the car is in good condition, with no substantial, MOT-relevant corrosion or wear. There are some blemishes and stone chips, but overall the car is extremely presentable and ready to drive away. Mechanically the car is extremely sound and in great working order. As with all of our sales cars, the M5 was thoroughly inspected by our BMW technicians when it arrived for sale, and all necessary remedial work was diagnosed and included in the sale price of the car: the EDC, sunroof and air-conditioning systems will all be supplied fully functioning.
The car was originally German-registered, imported to the UK and registered in 2000. Since 2000 it has had 3 registered keepers, including its current, and has a lovely history file to document work and service on the car. While in Germany the car was serviced by BMW Kassel, and since arriving in the UK has been serviced by a mixture of BMW dealers and specialists. The servicing paperwork and book show that all services have been carried out fully and according to BMW guidelines. As part of the PDI and prep the M5 will be fully serviced by our BMW-trained technicians using OEM parts and fluids, including an annual check service (brake fluid and coolant change). A new MOT certificate will also be provided. The car is currently untaxed, but a disc can be provided prior to purchase for the following costs: £123.75 for 6 months; or £225 for 12 months.
Once described as “a Ferrari in a Savile Row suit”, the E34 M5 Touring was first shown as a prototype in Frankfurt back in 1991, finally appearing on the market in Germany in 1992. All 891 cars produced were fitted with the 340bhp 3.8-litre straight six twin-cam S38 engine, replacing the earlier M88 from other BMWs like the E24. The M5 pulls with an impressive 295 lb ft of torque at 4750 rpm, and the straight six has the usual melodious howl that we know and love so well. Fitted with MacPherson struts, coil springs and anti-roll bar on the front, the ride is extremely smooth and the car grips the road fantastically, accelerating from 0-60mph in just 5.9 seconds up to a restricted limit of 155mph. The steering system is brilliantly responsive, and the M5 Touring is equally at home on short journeys through UK back streets and long, afternoon drives on the open roads of the continent.
Never available directly on the UK market, these cars have developed a cult following and are becoming increasingly scarce in good condition with good provenance. This particular M5 may have gone past the 100k mile mark, which so often acts as a barrier in the mind of many buyers; but its current condition and history mark it out as a special car that still has the potential to be a fantastic drive for many years to come. At just £10,995 this M5 Touring is an absolute bargain, and a must for any E34 fan.
