Even at Munich Legends, we don’t see cars like this very often. We first made contact with this M3 some years ago, when we received a call from the first owner. He told us the story of him buying the car brand new from the showroom (he remembers the figure of £29,995) at Quadrifoglio BMW in Romsey Road, Southampton back in ’89. It was a big moment for him. After covering just over 25000 in the first couple of years of ownership, business took him overseas, and the Evo II was mothballed. Having stored the car for more than 20 years, the owner decided to ask us to help put the car into perfect condition and find a new owner. We undertook a full overhaul of all the obvious age/under-use related items, including a full underside restoration, full engine recommission etc and brought the car fully back to life. We found an immediate buyer – Simon Gregg, the well-known car enthusiast and owner of acclaimed prestige car dealership Bramley Garage, in Surrey. Simon proudly displayed his find as a centre piece in his showroom in Bramley, and although not intending to sell, found himself visited regularly by long term Munich Legends customer and serial E30 M3 owner, Mr F. Eagle-eyed Mr F recognised the car from his visits to ML and finding himself between M3s at that precise moment, made Simon an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Since then the Evo II has been seen at many shows and events, as well as having been on holiday a few times. Garaged in dehumidified splendour, this exceptional car has been kept in the very best condition, and is quite simply one of the most beautiful E30 M3s you will find. The interior is spotless, as is the engine bay. The paintwork looks fabulous, the underside is near perfect – there just isn’t any criticism you can make. Mechanically and visually, it is in exceptional condition, and under the shiny paint and time warp interior, the integrity of the car – the shell, the hidden parts, the known problem E30 M3 areas – is as awesome as the bits you can see. It drives beautifully, without the loose, rattly feel of many E30 M3s, and is every bit worthy of the Evo II badge, pulling much harder and more smoothly than the pre evolution cars.
