1988 was a very good year for BMW in motorsport, and for the company in general. As BMW started to realise just how good their E30 M3 really was on the track, sales started to take off in the showrooms. To celebrate that first run of victories, achieved by amongst others Roberto Ravaglia (who went on to have his own special edition E30 M3 bear his name) BMW made a short run of Europameister special edition celebration models. Over three months at the end of ‘88 a tiny 148 Europameisters were produced, in Macao blue metallic, with silver extended nappa leather, and several cosmetic nods to the success of BMW’s world-beating four-pot rocket (special door cards, M stripe monogrammed seats, various trims and a plaque signed by RR himself).
This particular Europameister has long been known to Munich Legends – having been imported into the UK from Germany after only one owner back in February 2001. The car then changed UK owners quite quickly, and it has been with the same gentleman ever since. The current keeper is now quite elderly, and unfortunately due to illness, he has been unable to keep up maintenance and care as he would have wanted, in recent years. As a result, the family have asked Munich Legends to find a suitable buyer for the car, which would make an ideal ‘project’ for any enthusiast. The ML team were asked to give the car a thorough inspection, and to put the car into full roadworthy condition with a brand new MOT. Works totalling over £5500 have been carried out and the Europameister is now happy again, and ready for a new life – the engine is strong, holds perfect temperature and is in good condition with no health problems, and all relevant MOT work has now been carried out – a new certificate is now on the car. The bodywork is sound (if a little scruffy) and the interior is whole and in pretty good shape, whilst needing a few minor bits of cosmetic care. Make no mistake, this is still a very nice car.
The Europameister is priced with the condition in mind, and is therefore the perfect car for anyone looking to own a piece of motorsport history, and a car that will only ever increase in value and desirability, whilst being accessible in regard to price.
