Munich Legends and The Nurburgring
The Nurburgring Nordschleife, now one of the most celebrated race tracks in the world, was originally developed to bring commerce to the small German town of Nurburg. Since its completion in 1927, the renowned track has undoubtedly added global status to the town, further contributed to by the likes of Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson and RMA instructor Sabine Schmitz’s TV appearances at the track.
The track twists and winds through the mountains, around or over several villages and boasts some of the most breathtaking views and backdrops. At just under 13 miles in length, with around 170 corners, blind bends, jumps and drops, changeable weather conditions and special features such as the famous carousel, this unique course is not to be taken lightly.
The Nurburgring, which hosted the German Grand Prix until Formula One driver Niki Lauda’s infamous accident in ‘76, is unanimously acknowledged as the world’s most challenging and dangerous racetrack.
The German Grand Prix has since alternated between Hockenheim and the Nurburgring’s neighbouring purpose built track whilst “The Ring” hosts its own succession of races known as the Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal Nurburgring (VLN).
Munich Legends has a special connection with The Ring. Many of our team have become ‘Ringmeisters’, taking part in the gruelling Nurburgring 24 hour race series, and our Motorsport division have built or supplied many of the BMWs that now appear regularly at these events and the RMA track days.
It is no exaggeration to say that for track fans who have not experienced The Ring, it can be a life changing experience, which becomes highly addictive as the driver becomes more familiar with the circuit.
