If you’re looking for one of the worlds best E24 635csi examples, you have found it. Sympathetically restored by the current owner to extremely high standards, it was never meant to be sold. The restoration was carried out by our workshop team without the usual financial restraints often imposed by owners with an eye on the eventual value – and with the priority being to keep as much of the original look and feel of what was a treasured family friend.
Even with the values of these early sharks now rising fast, the restoration costs far, far exceed its showroom price tag. The E24 6 series played a major part in establishing BMW as a maker of elegant, fast, road devouring super machines. Way ahead of its time – and the competition – the E24 spanned 3 generations of 5 series and its longevity as a shape bore testiment to the skill of the designers and vision of the board.
Although BMW made many thousands of their world beating 635 csi – it was a huge success for the company, for obvious reasons – most of them were killed off by the dreaded rust that plagued these cars, and spiralling running costs offset against low values. They are now getting pretty rare, and restored examples like this, at sensible prices, are almost impossible to find. All the usual range of 6 series Achilles’ issues of course will not be of concern to the new owner – this is a car that is physically brilliant.
This particular 6 is based on the revolutionary E12 5 series, and is arguably the most ‘classic’ of all the E24 incarnations. Powered by the ubiquitous – and plain bloody brilliant – M30 engine, this most elegant of machines is as lively on the road as it is easy on the eye. Finished in immaculate Polaris silver with a perfectly contrasting period red leather interior this is a rare corrosion free example. Mechanically sound, its drive matches its look – and even the smell evoques those halcyon days of early 80s style and glamour.
